Code of Conduct

Punctim is built by people who disagree about protocols, codecs and priorities. That is expected. This document is about how we disagree.

What we expect

  • Argue about the work, not the person. Criticise code, specs and claims as hard as they deserve; leave people's character, background and competence out of it.
  • Be direct and be kind. Say what is wrong and why. Assume the other person is acting in good faith until they show otherwise.
  • Back claims with evidence. In this project a claim is worth what its test, vector or measurement is worth. Asking "how do you know?" is normal and is not an insult.
  • Make room for newcomers. Answer the question that was asked, point to the document that answers it, and remember that everyone started somewhere.

What is not acceptable

  • Harassment of any kind, in public or in private messages.
  • Insults, slurs, or demeaning remarks about anyone's identity, body, ability or origin.
  • Sexual language or imagery directed at people, and unwanted attention or contact.
  • Threats, intimidation, and encouraging others to do any of these.
  • Publishing someone's private information without their permission.
  • Repeatedly derailing discussions after being asked to stop.

Where this applies

Everywhere the project is present: the repository, issues, pull requests, discussions, chat channels and events run for the project, and anywhere someone is representing the project.

Reporting

Report a problem privately to DeMoD LLC at alh477@demod.ltd (the same address as SECURITY.md). Say what happened, where, and who was involved; links or screenshots help. Reports are kept as confidential as the situation allows, and nobody will be penalised for reporting in good faith.

What happens next

The maintainers will look at every report and decide what to do. Depending on what happened, that may be a private word, a public correction, removal of comments or contributions, or a temporary or permanent ban from project spaces. The response will match the harm, and the maintainers will tell the reporter what was done where that is possible.
