Context

The current table covers Ecumenical Council documents, Papal documents, and Bishop-level documents. However, several significant categories of Magisterial or authoritative documents are missing.

Missing Document Types / Issuers

Roman Curia / Dicasteries

Documents from Curial bodies (e.g., Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith) carry real authority, though of a different kind than papal or conciliar documents:

• Instructions (from Dicasteries)
• Declarations (from DDF/CDF — distinct from Council Declarations)
• Notifications (from DDF/CDF)
• Responsa ad dubia (from various Dicasteries)
• Directories (e.g., Directory on Popular Piety)

Bishops' Conferences

• Pastoral Letters (from national conferences)
• Decrees (from particular councils / plenary councils)

Pontifical Commissions

• Documents from the Pontifical Biblical Commission, International Theological Commission, etc.

Other Papal Document Types Potentially Missing

• Chirograph (handwritten papal letter)
• Apostolic Brief (vs the current "Brief" — clarify terminology)
• Angelus / Regina Caeli addresses
• Messages (e.g., for World Day of Peace)

Considerations

• Curial documents present a particular challenge: their authority depends on whether they have received specific papal approbation (in forma specifica vs in forma communi)
• This distinction affects both binding force and required assent
• The "Scope" column (universal/local) may need additional values (e.g., "regional" for Bishops' Conference documents)
