Add updated datetime to journal metadata and allow as filter/sort

I'd like to know when the metadata for a journal changes, or when a new journal is added. However, no record metadata is associated with the Journal resource, and so there is no way to do this currently.

Would it be possible to expose the updated/created timestamps on Journal and make these fields available to filter and sort by in the API?

We do have in the metadata so it is possible to search on a query and then sort based on when it was updated.

Something like this: https://api.crossref.org/prefixes/10.5555/works?select=DOI,author,title,deposited&sort=updated&rows=100

You can also select the field you would like to return the date from - deposited, indexed, issued etc. You can find out about the definitions of the search criteria here: https://github.com/CrossRef/rest-api-doc/blob/master/api_format.md#work

Here is a call that would return the specific journal based on the ISSN: https://api.crossref.org/works?filter=issn:2175053X&select=DOI,author,title,deposited&sort=updated&rows=100

Does this help? Or would you want something via the journal route?

It has to be based on the Journal route because:

1. I would need to make 58,000 API calls, once for each journal, to get the data I needed. If the metadata and sort is included in the Journal route, this goes down to 1 call.
2. ~3000 journals in CrossRef have no ISSN, so the above URL won't work for them.
