arecord not working

It seems that my pi zero is not even reading the pi HAT and its mics.
I did everything by the README, when I reached testing the mic part, I get this:

pi@raspberrypi:~/seeed-voicecard $ arecord -l
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
pi@raspberrypi:~/seeed-voicecard $ 

Any ideas what could be the problem?

If I run arecord test.wav, I get:

pi@raspberrypi:~/seeed-voicecard $ arecord test.wav
ALSA lib pcm_direct.c:1824:(_snd_pcm_direct_get_slave_ipc_offset) Invalid value for card
arecord: main:828: audio open error: No such file or directory
