Git may not be best

I just had a thought: Git collects a full snapshot of the state of the repo, so the storage space needed would increase exponentially.

Please consider using a different SCM.

I'm pretty sure 90% of SCMs were pushed out the market by Git although I'd be happy to hear possible alternatives.

fortunately, git seems to offer some amount of archiving

additionally, atlassian has a decent writeup on how to handle big repos that's worth diving further into

a possible workaround could be to archive the repo at regular intervals (or as needed), then copy the accumulated post/comment metadata over into a fresh repo to begin again?
