JXL encoding

As you know DICOM already released JXL as supplement.

Does Efferent have any plan to go for it?
And you know that color images are getting more popular in medical space, therefor soon it will turn into challenge for storing large amount of (and big sized) colorful images.

We will research on that. It may take several months to implement.

Any recommendation about which libraries to use will be appreciated.

Pros:

Cons:

recently I came across this repo:

which has some sort of JXL implementation
https://github.com/saucecontrol/PhotoSauce/tree/master/src/NativeCodecs/Libjxl

probably can help to develop the JXL part of fo-dicom codec.

This work item has more than a year waiting for a stable library.
Although https://github.com/libjxl/libjxl still has 300+ issues, it is still being mantained and most JXL project point to it.
Therefore we will use it with caveats.
