"No valid app found" when trying to add a picture to a contact

Steps to reproduce the bug

"No valid app found" when trying to add a picture to a contact (in phone), with either "Take Photo" or "Choose Photo" options

1. Open Contacts app
2. Open a contact
3. Click on the pencil icon to edit
4. Select the account (in phone)
5. Click on camera icon
6. Select Take Photo (my camera app is Open Camera v1.54.1)
7. Immediately get "No valid app found"
   or
8. Select Choose Photo
9. Using my Gallery app (Aves Libre 1.13.2 ) I select any JPG.
10. Back in the Contact app I get "No valid app found"

Expected behavior

For "Take Photo" the camera opens and the photo taken is then added to the contact.
For "Choose Photo" the image selected is added to the contact.

Actual behavior

"No valid app found" when trying to add a picture to a contact (in phone), with either "Take Photo" or "Choose Photo" options

The app is expecting an image editor on your device. This should be fixed, but you can workaround it now by installing an app that can handle editing, e.g., Fossify Gallery.

I'm having this same issue on a Nothing Phone. I stopped being able to change contact photos at all and get that same error message.

Tried with the "Markup" app from the Pixel phone installed, and with my gallery app (ReFra) that have a builtin editor and I still have the issue. Fossify Gallery worked.
