If you sync your Java account named "Test1" with your bedrock account.
Then change name on Java Edition to something else -> Joins on bedrock edition, your ingame name will still be "Test1". Items and other storage will still however be carried over.
So bascily, linked accounts does not sync the java players actual ingame name.

Yes, you're right. Only global linking currently updates the Java account their username once in a while, local linking does not have this functionality at the moment. This is something we could eventually add after the global api rework, but for the time being if this bothers you the easiest way to fix this is to just unlink and link again.
