Yes, the tag is well established, and very useful for vehicle navigation to provide better guidance matching what drivers see on the ground. - 🤔 Any answer the user can give should have an equivalent tagging (SCEE quests may not be answerable in all cases, but please keep this rare)
- 🐿️ A survey is necessary (may require knowledge of the subject, though easy answering for everyone is preferred)
It's not possible to map this from satellite/aerial imagery, but from street level imagery it is. Regardless, mapping from a survey is best.
- 💤 Not an overwhelming percentage of quests have the same answer (No spam)
As an overlay, I don't think this applies.
- 🕓 Applies to a reasonable number of map data (Worth the effort)
Yes, very common for these destination signs to exist on intersections of main roads.
Ideas for implementation
The implementation could be modelled off the existing turn restrictions overlay, in that users must select a from/to way then tag all the data they see on the sign.
I've added this as a custom overlay, and it works okay in that it will show where existing destination sign relations are mapped, but it won't let you add new ones, and you're not given a nice UI for entering destination, destination:street , sign colour and text colour, you're only given the raw tag editor.
