Steps to reproduce the issue
User-created dataverse roles can (in theory) be edited (pencil icon on screenshot) on any dataverse or dataset permission edit screen:
You can change the name (you may see it is misspelled) in the dialog box:
But then you get an error.
Which version of Dataverse are you using?
v. 6.1 with some minor modifications, but those do not concern with the role/permission system.
Are you thinking about creating a pull request for this issue? We may try to address this, but we do not know when we will have the time.
Currently, this can be worked around with a direct SQL query: UPDATE dataverserole SET name='' WHERE alias = '';
