We have an image that is failing when using identify

Hello,

I have an image that was converted from a PNG to a TIF, the conversion of the image was by using photoshop and we believe there is something weird in the metadata which is causing identify to throw this error,

After doing some reading there was a mention of maybe bad photoshop layers in the file which could be causing the problem, so I reran the recomended command

Just wondering if anyone could assist in tracking down why this image doesn't work, however we have others generated via the same image generation process that do work,

Have you tried upgrading to the most recent version?

Version 7 does work but the apt package manager for ubuntu doesn't have 7 accepted yet. I was hoping someone would be able to give me something to look into to understand why this tif vs others is failing.

I meant the most recent version of ImageMagick 6. The version that you are using is from Oct 8, 2023. It might be possible that you are running into a bug that has already been fixed.

Unfortunately it's the same problem, the only available version via the package manager is the one I specified.

We can check if this bug is still reproducible in the latest release if you share your input image. But if we fix this you will still need to update ImageMagick. So my advise would be to build the latest version and check if that resolves your issue.

Going to review the change log however having to build from source on a load of servers, even if we use automation will be pain. But nothing you can do about that. I just hope that the latest 7 get accepted into ubuntu soon. (I think it's in the draft stage).

I was also more after what in the tiff is causing the problem but I am not sure that's an easy one to answer either.

What is your version of libtiff?

convert -list format

then find the lines for TIFF. It should show your version at the end of the line.

Also what do you get from

convert -version

Just a note this is the identify command which is failing.

But if you are not able to let me know why on .12 the tif is not working, and you can only recommend upgrading to .13 which I understand then I think we can close this issue.

I don't have the time to investigate the exact reason. I suspect is was a bug that we fixed and you should upgrade to the version that has fixed this issue.
