I tried adding the Viber APK URL to Obtanium but it said "could not find suitable release."

Here is the official Viber APK URL that the company provided to me when I emailed them:

I've used this link for a few months to manually update Viber on my phone, but I would very much prefer to add it to Obtanium.

The link you were given won't work with Obtainium but there are 2 other links which can be used by adding as "HTML". Unfortunately, I see no way to extract the version number so the version will be a pseudo-version.

I already tried adding those 2 links to Obtainium but it didn't work that well. Those 2 links are very old and do not receive updates from Viber.

The only APK link that does receive the latest updates from Viber is: https://vb.me/v5h64

Obtainium says that "direct APK links" are supported. How come this direct APK link (https://vb.me/v5h64) will not work with Obtainium?

Both links I posted above worked for me. I downloaded the APK from all 3 discussed links to check version numbers and all 3 had the same version number.

The direct APK link https://vb.me/v5h64 produces the error "Could not get ID from APK" so this won't work. It does work as "Track-Only" though.

This direct APK link does work but is pointless because it won't retrieve updates.

The reason https://vb.me/v5h64 doesn't work is because it's not a direct APK link. It redirects to client-downloads.viber.com/downloader/downloader.html#https://client... (the real download URL is after the downloader.html# part).

That redirected URL gives you a webpage which contains a "Start download" link which has no destination - it does nothing. The webpage then uses JavaScript to grab the real download link from the redirect URL (the #https://client... part) which it uses to both (a) start the download (b) give the "Start download" button a destination URL.

This approach doesn't make sense to me because the whole point of having manual "Start download" buttons on these types of pages is so that users who have JavaScript disabled (and thus would not have the download start automatically) can still click on the link manually. Anyways, Obtainium can neither deal with JavaScript nor extract links from redirect URLs so it won't work for this case.

I added https://www.viber.com/en/download-android-update/ to Obtanium, and after it updated to the latest version, when I open the Viber app, I keep on getting an error message saying that "this app only supports 32 bit and therefore isn't compatible with more recent devices." It flashes constantly on the screen and makes Viber unusable.

But when I update Viber again via https://vb.me/v5h64 it does not show that error message. Also, the app version numbers are slightly different between the 2 links, which sort of explains the reason for the error message.

So clearly both of these versions are not exactly the same. Please see attached screenshots.

Also, the version numbers in Obtainium are different. The installed version is 24.7.0.0 but the latest version is 732983567. And it is constantly asking me to update the Viber app in Obtanium even after the latest version is already installed. Why is that?

I am thinking the solution to this issue is to add https://vb.me/v5h64 to Obtainium as "track-only." And when there is an update available, I can go to that link and download/install the latest update. But when I tap the "track-only" toggle on and try to add the link to Obtainium, it says "could not find a suitable release."

Please tell me how I can successfully add https://vb.me/v5h64 to Obtanium as "track-only" so I will be notified when there is an update available and I can manually install the update.

Or if you have any other suggestions/solutions to adding the Viber APK to Obtainium, I would appreciate that.
