Add .editorconfig file to ensure consistent code formatting across editors

Problem:
Different contributors may use different code editors or IDEs, which can lead to inconsistent formatting (e.g., tabs vs spaces, indentation, newline at end of file). This can clutter pull requests with unrelated formatting changes.

Proposed Solution:
Add a simple .editorconfig file to the root of the repository to standardize formatting settings across contributors’ editors.
