I think the most relevant alternatives seems to be scoped already - Bluetooth and Spotify Connect.

Just curious about this. Guess the reason for not including AirPlay is due to it being a proprietary technology with licene fees? According to https://mfi.apple.com/en/faqs.html the cost seem inexpensive (99 USD/year), but still conflicts with the open source aprroach - and guess it might not even be the actual amount it would costs.

I haven't actually looked into this much, but the fee doesn't seem to be the blocker.

However I haven't seen an open source implementation of this for the ESP32 platform. There seems to be a number of implementation in Python and Go (and I am sure others): https://github.com/openairplay/goplay2.

It could be an interesting addition for sure.

It appears that AirPlay is at least planned as a plug-in in the euphonium software.

But as of now, no code has been committed.
