Smart contract deployments with ledger stopped working entirely

Deploying smart contracts with MetaMask extension and a Ledger stopped working around 27th of August.

**Steps to reproduce **
Steps to reproduce the behavior, libraries used with version number, and/or any setup information to easily reproduce:

1. Go to https://remix.ethereum.org/
2. Try to deploy any contract with a ledger
3. Fails

Expected behavior
It should deploy the contract without an error message.
