I believe this was a simple mistake when porting code from a furry ERP server.
The underdweller mercenary sub-class (dwarves) spawns with a particular pickaxe made of steel. This pickaxe was heretofore its primary combat weapon -- and, indeed, the class gets Skilled Axes.
After the recent combat rework, the combat ability of this weapon was severely, severely reduced -- to a level akin to a normal pickaxe or most other tools. Indeed, a stone knife is more effective -- seemingly regardless of the intent used.
Additionally, this pickaxe has a wood-cutting axe (hatchet) head attached. Previously, it was able to cut trees, branches, etc. with similar ease to an iron axe. This is no longer the case. It can take upwards of 20+ hits for the pickaxe to break a simple branch now.
It's possible this was intentional, but it seems odd that the maker would intentionally destroy this weapon (and, indeed, sub-class) without even mentioning it in passing in the PR. Thus, I assume it is a mistake. The weapon is labeled only as 'PICKAXE' -- I cannot provide more information, sadly -- so it was probably just normalized to other pickaxes by mistake. Sadly it's not something Claude Code would notice.
This bug can be replicated by loading in as Underdweller (Dwarf) Mercenary and attempting to use the pick against a weak enemy (e.g. a rous) or a branch.
