Checking in to see how v0.12.0 is working for y'all. I'm going through my backlog to determine next wave of changes to work on so happy to have your input on how things are working, any key features to add, etc.

A new build for you to try, Snapshot build #160.

It has all the Highlights functionality (now merged into main) but also has the card swipe action functionality. You can control how it works with controls in Settings | User Interface.

The feature is similar to how it works in apps like GMail... when you swipe, if you start but back of it will cancel but if you continue past half away and release the action happens.

It uses the same feature for delete so a deleted card is greyed out and there's a snackbar with Undo. I've also fixed (hopefully) the issue where multiple deleted in a row behaved oddly.

Let me know how you like it.

One other favor? I created a fast-scroll control for the highlights lists similar to the one in Google Photos where you can see a set of dates down the right side and drag the control down to quickly move to a specific date range in the list. Unfortunately, I can't test it since the API doesn't allow setting the create date of a highlight so the 1800 I created in a script all have dates this month.

If you are able to test it, please share your feedback on how well it works. If you find that you are unable to test it for some reason (e.g., it never shows in the UI, or crashes, etc.), could we go back to your offer to send a copy of your data? As an alternative to a full export from Readeck, would it be feasible to share your Wallabag export and let me use the Readeck Wallabag import?

Actually, I just looked at the page in Readeck for that and I see that it's based on using your Wallabag login info so I guess that won't work. If you do run into issues testing, then if you think this feature is worth the time for you to export data and me to import it, we can take a closer look at that option.

PS. In that same build, there are a set of misc tweaks, one of which is adding an Error block on the Detail page for bookmarks that had an extraction error and it also supports seeing the extraction log for the bookmark. Even if the fast scroll feature doesn't pan out, this branch will go into main with the error block feature.

Hi, @NateEaton!

Here are some findings, based on the latest snapshot 166.

First, there's some bug with reading articles, text seems completely non-responsive? It starts scrolling then reflows and remains glued to the start of the text?

Second, the swipe actions are nice, I suppose they could potentially be made more "sticky"? When I say sticky I mean that they would require a more focused left or right swipe gesture before triggering? Right now if I flick my finger while scrolling it can still register as a beginning of a swipe.

I will say I don't know if it would be an upgrade, making it more sticky could make it feel unnatural so it may not be worth pursuing, since I presume the added stickiness would need to be very subtle. Just a thought.

Finally, about the highlights. Right now I'm seeing the letter and year pills as soon as I start scrolling, can't click the pills or engage the scrollbar. I also can't figure out what the letters ought to represent? Months, maybe? If this is unforeseen behaviour and the issues are hard to pin down I'll gladly send you an export of my data for you to play around with.

Anyway, here are some initial thoughts, please forgive me if they're a bit chaotic:

First, I'd leave the finger scroll as is and wouldn't display the letters or years while scrolling like that.

Second, I'd make the scrollbar be the super-jump control that will reveal the pills and enable to quickly jump between them. The idea would be to use the actual scroll "bar" as a super sensitive scroll, while retaining the ordinary scroll for day to day navigation.

Third, if the letters are months, I'd place them inline with the years, and have them be in three letters.

In my mind interacting with the scroll bar would pop up the pills. Then I would be able to sort of quick scroll by sliding it up and down, and it could even "snap" to the start of the year or month, or whatever. If possible, maybe even clicking on a pill would jump directly to the destination, etc.

You could distinguish the focused item with a sort of zoom focus effect, like in this image, and it would make sense with the unified list of sorts:

Anyway, these are just some preliminary thoughts, feel free to ask for clarification or disregard whatever you think isn't suitable.

• I've shelved the fast-scroll feature for now, will take it up again after the v0.13 release. I now have a plan for how to test it locally when I do return to working on it.
• The Reader view issue should have been fixed but your description helped identify an edge case I hadn't dealt with. Please confirm whether it's working properly again.
• I agree with your concern over the swipe sensitivity. For me, the ah-ha moment was when I realized I could start scrolling and on the same touch move sideways and start a swipe. That shouldn't have been possible - it was already correct for swipe (if you start to swipe it won't let you scroll). This should now be fixed.

Once you've had a chance to check these, my plan is to do final checks and push release v0.13.

I can confirm that the article issue has been fixed!

• I agree with your concern over the swipe sensitivity. For me, the ah-ha moment was when I realized I could start scrolling and on the same touch move sideways and start a swipe. That shouldn't have been possible - it was already correct for swipe (if you start to swipe it won't let you scroll). This should now be fixed.

The swiping does seem just that tad bit better and consistent, just like you said. I'll keep a lookout for any edge-cases but this is probably it.

Sounds like you have a plan! As always I'm there to test things out when the time is right. For now it seems best to move towards 0.13.

Once you've had a chance to check these, my plan is to do final checks and push release v0.13.

One potentially noteworthy thing, this snapshot seems a tad slower than the others? Not so much with scrolling etc. but loading things. For example, when loading the app I now see a big placeholder circular icon, that was not visible before. Or, loading highlights now takes a second. These could simply be debug build gremlins again, but may be worth keeping an eye out for as you prepare for release.
