What would you like to see added to PyNWB?

Relates to work on BIDS bep032 (attn @bendichter ) and attempts by @manimoh to prep .nwb files for their neuropixel data (preprocessed).

What would be the place in NWB, or which extension we are doomed to use, to store basic metadata about placement of the probes -- depth, orientation (e.g. roll, pitch, yaw)

Is your feature request related to a problem?

No response

What solution would you like?

standard placement for such metadata and so it could be present also in derived data files (not necessarily raw)

Do you have any interest in helping implement the feature?

No.

I do not think there is currently a place in NWB to store this type of information about the placement of probes.

The ndx-extracellular-channels extension is in development and has defined attributes to store metadata about probe placement (including insertion depth and orientation). Would those definitions cover the types of metadata you are interested in storing?
