Thank you for reporting this issue! We've confirmed the problem and submitted a fix.

The issue you described where snapshots were being created even when authentication fails has been addressed. The fix ensures that your credentials are validated before any background work happens.

The fix is now under review: CortexLM/cortex-cli#75
