Proposal to Integrate this Package Functionality into Latest GDSFactory

From what I can tell, this package appears to be a thin wrapper built on top of a two-year-old version of GDSFactory (v7).

Would you be open to porting this functionality directly into the current version of GDSFactory?

Doing so would allow it to benefit from the many improvements introduced since v7, including enhanced routing, simulation, and PCell support available in GDSFactory v9 (port visualization, metadata ...)

Hi @joamatab - yes that would be great! I had a student who stared this endeavor but ended up quitting ..

Awesome, Mehdi! I’d be happy to give it a try—or help find someone in the GDSFactory community who might be interested in contributing as well.

I’m especially interested in co-simulating quantum/photonic and analog electronic circuits, so this could be a great opportunity to expand GDSFactory from Photonics/Quantum/MEMs into Analog circuit design

It would be really helpful if we port wrt the latest GDSFactory both in setting up the dev-environment (We went through quite a lot of hoops to work with a sandboxed GDSFactory v7 in a system where GDSFactory is the latest) and the new features mentioned.

Also, since this repo is trimmed down (wrt OpenFASOC) with a minimal code base, it should be relatively easier. Check out these commits 1418620, 455e9b6,cd0e313, for example.

Definitely! it sounds like a good idea to also have access to Glayout functionality as a plugin, including interface with other tools like, e.g., DEVSIM TCAD
