Feature request: make SmartTemplates work with Markdown Here Revival

In my day-to-day, I often have to write rich text, that may include math formulae, and code snippets. For that, I use Markdown Here Revival. Unfortunately, when this is the case, MHR will "kill" the format of my smart templates, and the message will go out with nicely formatted formulas and beautified code, but with standard type and white background. It would be fantastic if both extensions could be made to work together!

I understand that this may be something to request to the MHR developers instead; I have not looked into the workings of either of the two. It is when MHR formats the text, right before sending, that the SmartTemplates formatting is lost.

I have done some testing - it looks like MHR has trouble reading HTML, e.g. i nthis example I made a heading using simple HTML: <h2>thunderbird daily 67</h2> - I don't think markdown expects HTML in the "original message" - so it interprets this as a normal line:

However if you modify your templates to be in markdown (maybe disable use HTML - although it seems to be able to read a table element), it should actually work:

markdown will naturally reformat and simplify a lot of your document, e.g. remove extra line breaks and standardize the output. Not sure whether any of your CSS rules will survive,... I think MDH will strip away all style blocks / rules and automatically go for a much simpler layout:

in my test - I can still save the message as draft and the source code survives - so my guess is that the final processing (to create what we see on the right hand side of the split screen) probably happens on send. The question is, what exactly are you trying to achieve? I think that the final processing of MHD would naturally destroy any efforts on my side to generate proper layout usiung HTML / CSS - it wants plain text as input.

I think that you need another tool that allows you to type (or paste) markdown into a text field and then inserts the formatted text into the contents of the HTML editor. That might be a feature request for the MHR team?
