Question about Forward Template/CardBook

Hi,

I'm using Thunderbird 140.1.1esr on Linux with SmartTemplates 4.13.1pre6 and have a Write template set up like this:

%recipient(addressbook,nickname,??firstname)%

I’m using CardBook 100.4 to store my contacts, and this template works perfectly when composing a new message.

However, when I use the same template for forwarding a message, it doesn’t seem to work.

Is there a way to make it work for forwarded messages as well?

I did some testing this morning, and got it to work by also adding the fwd switch:

In my smartTemplates-overlay.js code, the SmartTemplate4.regularize.simplify() function has a classifyReservedWord() helper function, where I found this part:

it's a viable workaround, but i do not currently remember what the actual reason for the fwd switch was. But let's have a look at the variables window:

so I guess that must be its specific purpose. Not sure what the benefit of it not working by default is, but I guess it might be an annoyance in some use cases if the interactive field is inserted.

You're welcome. Also i noticed that the full text search in the variables tab doesn't work that well: it omits any %variable% text. Time to raise another issue.... see #388
