Messages with mobile camera images not visible on desktop

Description:

Messages sent from the mobile app with a newly captured camera image attachment are visible on the mobile client, but are not properly rendered on the desktop/web client.

The issue appears to occur specifically when using the in-app camera capture flow on the mobile application.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open the Rocket.Chat mobile app
2. Take a photo using the in-app camera feature
3. Add a text message/caption
4. Send the message to a channel or direct message
5. Open the same conversation from the desktop/web client

Expected behavior:

The message and image attachment should render correctly on both mobile and desktop/web clients.

Actual behavior:

• The message renders correctly on the mobile client
• The same message cannot be properly viewed from the desktop/web client
• The issue appears reproducible consistently

• Number of Users: 100
• Operating System: Linux
• Deployment Method: docker
• Number of Running Instances: 1
• DB Replicaset Oplog: yes
• NodeJS Version: v22.16.0

Client Setup Information

• Desktop App or Browser Version: Firefox 150.0.1
• Operating System: Ubuntu 24.04

Additional context

The issue seems related specifically to messages containing images captured directly from the mobile app camera flow.

Messages sent without camera-captured attachments do not appear to be affected.

No mention of phone or file type. It matters.

Are they iphone proprietary format HEIC/HEBC images?

If so I suggest you search properly here and the reactnative repo for other issues on this.

If not then what are they?

The phone that took them probably has the decoder to view them, but the desktop may not.

That is not a bug in Rocket.Chat

Sorry, I didn't mention that the image is visible but the text isn't.
The problem occurs when posting a JPEG image from the Android version of the Rocket.chat app. The image can be viewed on a PC, but the accompanying message does not appear.

I have explored regarding this bug, and I have found out that when I am hosting the website using cloudflare files are not getting loaded. This is not the issue of react native application

Root Cause

getURL: (url: string): string => getURL(url, { full: true }),

It is returning full url, i.e. localhost:3000/file-upload...
But we should have a relative url according to hosting server.

Fix

     // File-upload URLs should remain relative to work with tunnels/proxies
     if (url.startsWith('/file-upload/')) {
         return getURL(url, { full: false });
     }

But this fix involves hard coding, not recommended.
