Wasted Space by Vibration Motor

Hi everyone!
I've found a little problem, we need to solve: The vibration motor wastes a lot of potential space inside the phone (1-2mm). This Image shows that:

We need to check for the following to solve it:

• Is there another place we can put it?
• Can we move it there?
• If not, are there alternatives to this vibration motor?
• Do they have a lower profile?
• Is this change worth the effort?

Possible space

A possible place with enough space could be the rim above and below the screen. But there are other very important parts such as the ports.

After some searching I was able to find a pretty inexpensive component with a very low profile. I've included pictures and a link to the part on digikey.

This one may not be optimal as it has wire leads instead of being SMD, that's not a big deal though.

(Note: let's remember to modify the driver circuit to work with the new one, also no big deal)

about the circuit mounting:
is it posible to somehow physically link the vibration motor to the chasis instead of the circuit?

On the PCB side:

I was thinking that if we follow a design for the pcb which allows us to indepandantly soldier/desoldier the vibration motor, and have a small "hole" like slot for the motor, to sit in (i have attached a sketch i made in paint)

On the chasis side:

it is directly linked to the motor, so the entire output of the motor gets transferred to the chasis.

Other notes

• I think there may be a couple of advantages, mainly that the soldering of the motor wont be a "weak" spot, i.e. the vibrations from the motor wont somehow affect the soldering on the board.
• Also, having the coupling directly to the chasis may also help make the vibration feel more crisp for the user (i cant say for certain, as i have not tested it)

Along with this, we can also save space by putting the battery in the same physical layer as this motor and the switch (if i could also suggest placing the switch box with these)

I think it is definitely possible to mount the vibration motor to the chassis. I think the best place for it is the same layer as the fingerprint sensor, IF there's enough space.

But for that to be implemented, we need a connector on the backside of the pcb instead of the front.
Is that possible @V3lectronics?
