[Feedback] Conflict with Hover Editor Plugin

When using with the Hover Editor Plugin and use Ctrl+Hover to open hover editor, the virtual content will blink and prevent hover editor window from appearing:

I'm unfortunately not able to reproduce this issue, can you replicate this error in the Sandbox vault, and send it to me? Does it happen with all your virtual content, or just with the progress bar? Do you have refresh on focus change enabled?

Thanks. I'm able to reproduce in the vault you sent, but not in the actual barebones sandbox vault. Can you please provide the minimal possible Vault where this issue occurs? It's really hard to diagnose what is causing the issue when there are so many customizations in the Vault.
Ideally it would be great if you could also see if the issue only shows up with the progress bar. In your vault I'm only reproducing the issue with the progress bar, when there is just regular markdown in the header it doesn't happen.

Hi there, sorry for the delay – I've been quite busy lately and couldn't get away.

But anyway, I've prepared the (greatly simplified) Sandbox vault! Now it basically only contains 3 relevant plugins (only 400+kb).

Additionally, apart from the progress bar, I also tried the simplest DVJS script (testDVJS.js), which just displays a line of text without any read operations:

dv.paragraph("(rendered by dv.js) Just show somethings.")

Then I also tried "markdown file" and "direct text", and even the latter showed flickering.
They correspond to Rule 2 and Rule 3 in the current plugin settings.

By the way, I noticed that when HoverEditor appears, Obsidian's title bar also changes, leading me to speculate whether it actually performs a "load page and switch" process, which might... when loading the new page, cause loss of focus, then the Virtual Content rendering disappears, causing the link position to change, the mouse to lose its target, HoverEditor loading to stop... and this cycle repeats?

Not sure if some degree of delay or a debounce mechanism could help alleviate this.

Yes, after I cleaned up other plugins, the occurrence seems to have decreased, but it still happens occasionally (I suspect this might also be related to page complexity or loading factors).

I completely understand the difficulty in testing and fixing such intermittent issues, especially since the number of users still using the HoverEditor plugin might not be very large after the official Hover Preview editing feature was updated. (I personally keep using it only because I occasionally need multiple floating notes.)

You can either put this issue on hold or (if you don't have enough bandwidth in the short term) close it for now.
Even as the reporter, I don't consider this a high-priority issue 😄

(By the way, the newly introduced Dataview filtering feature further expands filtering capabilities - great update! )

2025-08-07 Update:

I tried to find more clues—
When my Obsidian becomes particularly laggy, I can observe a flickering "slow-motion" version:
Hover over a link, VC content in current page disappears, mouse loses focus of link, VC content reappears.

Basically, the previous flickering seems like this process sped up many times over.

By the way, when I disable "Refresh on focus change," the behavior doesn't change.
So I suspect HoverEditor is executing the "open file" logic, thereby triggering the automatic refresh.

Considering that the refresh upon "opening a file" seems unavoidable, I can't think of any solution at the moment, haha.

(Unless... can VC only render one at a time? If we delay the "unloading" time of the old view... would that avoid the flickering? 🤔)

I wasn’t sure whether to report the following as a new issue or not, but I think this issue is related to the current one. Virtual notes with a callout do not expand, whereas callouts created normally do expand and collapse.

Now the issue occurs with Obsidian's native preview view.

The first callouts belong to the virtual note, while the third lower callout is a normal callout.

I only have the Virtual Content plugin active and not the Hover Editor plugin.
