We collect some personal information on you in order to provide the services of the Rongo App.
We create a unique code associated with your usage of the App. This enables the saving of your progress in the app should you need to transfer to another device.
If and only if you decide to share your recordings with us, then we will collect those recordings and metadata associated with those recordings. Your unique code will also be associated with these recordings and their metadata.
If and only if you decide to log in to the Rongo App, then we will collect your email. Your email is used to associate your personal information (email) with your unique code. This enables features such as using Rongo across multiple devices as well as any new features that require you to have an account with the App.
All data we collect falls under our Kaitiakitanga License. We may use data you share with us to improve our services or to conduct Māori-led research on pronunciation. For example, recordings you share with us may be used to train new models for pronunciation, or we may use those recordings to identify common pronunciation mistakes made by learners of te reo Māori.
The data you may decide to share with us from Rongo will create unprecedented opportunities for future Māori-led research around te reo Māori and the evolution of the sounds of te reo Māori in a post-colonial age. We may, from time to time, work with third party researchers such as Māori scholars, Māori language communities, or Universities to conduct this research.
