At this time, we're not looking to target 4.7 yet, so I doubt your PR would be accepted at this time. If its about the bizarre return thing, I actually plan to implement that in 4.3 in the near future.

Well, the framework actually works in 4.7 after fixing those errors related to returning values inside void functions, we don't need to do anything else to target 4.7.. also it's kinda bizarre for me that the 4.3 version of the framework works with later versions of Godot (I guess?) but not 4.7.. @Daniel-Cortez already fixed that for the player refactor tho, but not sure if we should do that in the main branch for anyone who's downloading the most stable version of the framework or not..

Don't be that weirded out by it. Anything within a major release is generally expected to remain forward compatible. Once they start talking about Godot 5, that's when we need to start thinking about big sweeping changes requiring a major address.

I only did that in #337, and that PR hasn't been merged in yet. Also, normally I'm not a fan of such preemptive changes, but in this case I did that because I needed it to be able to work on SWN from my Android tablet – older versions of Godot don't work on it because of an obscure bug that affects Adreno and Mali GPUs, and the workaround for it was only introduced in version 4.6 (and later got backported into 4.5.2). As a bonus, this also helped me to discover and fix another bug in the Controller Menu, which is why I decided to upload all the changes altogether. But, of course, I can remove return value fixes from that PR if they're considered undesirable.

There is ongoing work in 4.3 derived versions that prevents us from wanting to retarget to 4.7 at this time.

Don't be sorry. In the middle of all of that, you got a reply saying that they might not be interested yet. Eventually this may be useful to them. Silence or denial isn't meant to indicate something rude here, just can't, which is something maintainers have to do once in a while, if not every day. Your offer itself was kind enough. If you're still interested in contributing to the repository you can help out in other ways. The current main development branch is shadow's (i forget exactly) so if anything breaks there you can add a pr to the pile. Maybe add a gimmick you like such as the lbz launchers.

Player-Refactor-Shadow-Work-3 -- though I would still prefer we wait until we get everything collapsed to main before we take on a project of this nature.

Good news though is that I just cut the 4.3.0 release today and am gearing up to do just that and we've collectively decided that yes, it's time to upgrade to 4.7... just as soon as we've got all the outstanding projects wrapped up.

My current plan is to finish up what I was last doing with Shadow work, merge back to Player-Refactor (don't worry, it's actually very minor) -- if that goes cleanly, then I'll do a brief project to character select to make Shadow not show up in the playable character list by default since he still isn't finished. I'll then include Shadow's aseprite project in the repo where I'm trying to switch his base palette to his super paette (which is much more conducive to splitting out his various pieces into different palettes than his normal palette is) in case anyone is willing to help me finish that. Once he is no longer playable by default I'll merge back to main and begin the effort of porting to 4.7.

At that point, please expect main to be a little less stable than 4.3 for a while. Player-Refactor changes a lot about how player code works and also probably won't integrate super easily into ongoing projects without going over a lot of variables that have had their names changed and getters/setters added.

You managed to get godot to use aseprite files? dude that's awesome!

I didn't say that. There's no compelling reason to do that since it's very easy to export from aseprite to a png spritesheet.

EDIT: The one nice to have from that would be that you can preserve animation tags in the sprite sheet, but since a lot of animations reuse the same frames that's of limited benefit. It's not worth the addition of relying upon a community plugin.
