Kodi crashing to desktop

Hi Red,

It looks like something strange is happening with Red Light and widgets that’s causing a crash to desktop but I’m really not sure.

I’ve tested on different wizard builds and my own set up. Unfortunately same result on each.

Thanks for reporting and the logs and dumps are useful.

I’ve gone through them. Both crashes are a native access violation inside Kodi’s python3.8.dll, not a Red Light Python error. On the second dump the faulting thread matches a Red Light LanguageInvoker that had just started a Home widget refresh (Trending) while several other Red Light widgets were also refreshing and a stream was opening. That kind of multi-widget refresh around playback/Home is normal for a full setup - nothing looks misconfigured on your side. It looks like Kodi’s Python dying under concurrent addon/widget work and I’ve also seen this on my Shield.

I’m assuming LanguageInvoker = On? Invoker = On is faster but it stresses Kodi’s Python. I can’t prove from these dumps that Invoker is the sole cause, but it might be relevant.

Please try switching the Language Invoker = Off. Also provide longer kodi.logs (from at least a minute or two before any crash).

What the log shows:

1. You pick a source (sources_results closes)
2. Playback starts (TorBox stream / demux)
3. Home widgets refresh together (normal for Nimbus when leaving sources / starting play)
4. Several Red Light invokers start in parallel
5. Kodi dies in python3.8.dll on one of those widget threads

I can’t pin a single Red Light line from the dump, but the timing is consistent across your reports.

Please try one controlled test: same playback path with Language Invoker = Off, then restart Kodi and see whether the crash still happens.
