The whole idea of projects is to have everything related to your project in one place - Namely the Project Itself
Currently the system is, well, just simply quite a mess. This prevents MAX finding media, and in many cases using incorrect media.
To use Projects we must have
files in Documents Area
and files in the Steam root folder (definitely a no-no)
As stated and as per the original document specifications for the Projects proposal - everything should be in one place - in the Project itself
you would then just need a location for all your projects specified in settings like so:
If it was done this way, we could:
use the writables location as originally intended - that is - where your custom media is located
would avoid having files all over the place - thus avoid the seriously bad house-keeping in place atm
perhaps that would help MAX to know where to point for stuff
Can we please get back to implementing projects correctly, and not just leaving it in tatters?
As an example, the StoryBoard:
the project images displayed in the Hub, must be in Steams Root folder - or it simple won't show it.
the shortcut icon also has to be there as well, or MAX can't find it, this image also is no longer used for the icon when making standalone - maybe MAX doesn't know where to pull it from when building the standalone
There are numerous examples where max uses the wrong files in the editor, but the correct ones in standalone - blood splats and grass for example. Hardly useful when developing a game.
If the original Project System, as specified in the original Project Brief was implemented, all this could have been avoided.
Self-contained projects have ALL files in one place - I really hope we can get back to sorting this properly :)

The reason for Custom GameGuruApps location, was so we don't have to use the default Windows Documents folder.
We simply point MAX to the location of choice:
This was to avoid using valuable drive space for tons of media we may not want to use anyway.
As it is we seam to be using documents area simply to hold a pointer to any remote projects - sort of pointless really.
We really don't need to use the HUB to display all our remote projects - most likely there will be one or two on the go at best.
To access remote projects after they have been created could we not just have a load remote projects dialog
Here is an example:
The remote project, once loaded, could display the project info, and image on the right side of the HUB, and be accessed for editing as normal.
