Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe:
TADA references the WQX QAQCCharacteristicValidation table (Type = CharacteristicMethod) to flag entries with invalid characteristic/method combinations. Combinations submitted through WQX Web are manually reviewed and given one of the following statuses: Accepted, Rejected, or NonStandardized. There are over 8000 entries that are ‘Not Reviewed’ and need to be examined. We reference the National Environmental Methods Index (NEMI) and EPA’s Substance Registry Services when reviewing analytical methods and analyte combinations. Entries that are reviewed but ones that we are not able to make a firm designation will be reviewed by technical experts. Ex., there are hundreds of organic and inorganic pesticide compounds in WQP that will require a specialist to provide feedback on appropriate lab identification methods.
Describe the solution you'd like:
Analyte/Method combinations are being manually reviewed in an excel worksheet that is posted on the WQX Teams Workspace folder. This table will be used to update the WQX domain list.
Describe alternatives you've considered:
In the long-term, we have discussed leveraging AI tools to assist in validating analyte/method combinations. We propose using AI tools to provide an initial screen whether the WQX user Analyte/Method submission matches Analyte/Method combinations from authoritative data sources (e.g., NEMI). Output from this process would be reviewed by people before accepting any changes. This future solution will take time to develop and to implement and may reduce QAQC reviewing time if successful.
