plasticine material for testing "softening" parameter

Hello, 
I'd like to ask whether there's a config using plasticine material, for I want to test the "softening" parameter, which is used only when the material is plasticine. I tried adjusting the material of a provided config to plasticine and then tuning the softening parameter, but there does not seem to be a difference in the output video. Thank you!
