After looking through the Mill-Max catalog and a little bit of trial error, I determined that the Mill-Max receptacle with part number 8637-0-15-15-25-27-10-0 works very well for making a TO-18 socket.
To transform the TO-18 footprint, I made the hole diameters 0.991 mm and the pad sizes 1.25 mm x 1.25 mm.
This is what the socket looks like:
And here is the PCB with the Mill-Max socket featuring an MTPD2601T-030 photodiode.
I have not yet mastered the art of measuring the bandwidth for these guys, so I have not tested whether having this type of socket impacts performance in some way. But, mechanically, it is a good fit.
