BUG: Always need to `asdf reshim` after install a npm package globally

After installing a npm package globally I can't use it. It shows zsh: command not found: <package>.

How to reproduce

asdf install nodejs 18.18.0
npm install -g typescript typescript-language-server
typescript-language-server # Shows "zsh: command not found: typescript-language-server"
asdf reshim
typescript-language-server # After reshim it shows "error: required option '--stdio' not specified", indicating that it recognizes it

System

• OS: macOS Sequoia 15.3.1 (24D70)
• Shell: zsh 5.9 (x86_64-apple-darwin24.0)
• asdf version: 0.16.7
• CPU: 8-Core Intel Core i9

Other infos

• asdf was installed via homebrew
• This problem started to occur after installing asdf version 0.16.x
• I have uninstalled and reinstalled asdf, the asdf-nodejs plugin and the nodejs version (18.18.0). None worked

It might be a problem with asdf core migration to golang. While I debug this issue, you can pin your asdf version to a version prior to 0.16 and everything should still be working

We have a special shim that should've intercepted npm global installs and automatically reshimed it. I think that it is not being called for some reason.

Can you send me the output of asdf which npm? And also asdf info

I've installed asdf using homebrew and wasn't able to install an older version. I'll try another install method.

Did you try installing a specific version with brew?

@Stratus3D, is this a known bug? It seems that asdf is not considering custom shims for commands

Yes, I did. Running brew install asdf@0.15.0 or brew install asdf@0.14.1 does not work. It says Error: No formulae or casks found for asdf@0.15.0..

Wrote a fix to asdf-core on asdf-vm/asdf#2067, let's wait it to be merged

asdf-vm/asdf#2076 has been merged for this, which contains all the changes @augustobmoura made in asdf-vm/asdf#2067. Changes will be released in asdf 0.17.0 which will hopefully be released sometime this month.
