we have another spanning tree implementation in the works? I thought the spanning tree work referred to @lordnull's work on cascading writes?

This does refer to the spanning tree work to be used for cascading writes. However, with the addition of settings that require the same configuration on multiple clusters (e.g. strongly consistent buckets/bucket types), having a consistent mechanism for reaching all connected clusters may be desirable. Thus, the creation of a sub-system that can be used for more than just cascading writes.

Interesting, but with all concerned having departed, and a vague context in the first place, is there any point in keeping this issue open? 'wontfix' is a valid closing label.
