recommended way to collaborate in bigger legacy projects

I am really excited about BMAD and how it can accelerate our development. Currently I am managing a bigger legacy project and I wonder what is the best way to manage the documentation.
Inside one codebase, I have multiple projets in development, multiple teams are collaborating on it.
I was thinking about the following setup:

1. having a general "documentation" folder with subfolders per project, eg "documentation/projects/project-1", "documentation/projects/project-2")
2. also having a "general" documentation folder that is the base documentation of the project, like "documentation/base/architecture.md" as well some database documentation (documentation/base/db.md)

what is best practice? Put .bmad folders in gitignore so each "member" can install its instance with their own priviliges? But somehow I also need some common configuration, like output folder per project etc...

What is best approach here?
