should we keep all the files in github repo? how to deal with the status file?

I am using it for a while, in a brownfield project, there are lots of files that has been generated.

1. should we keep all files in GitHub repo, or just locally?
2. how to deal with the status file?
   a. once I start to analyze a requirement, I need to delete the status file to do the new turn.
   b. also other files generated, I also deleted. Is it a good practice?
3. what is a best practice that if several friends are using the workflow, they also generates a lot, shall we keep all them in repo?
