_ve data values

I am on a 64bit linux platform with hardware floating point and getting -ve values for both pressure and humidity, from a BME688 sensor.
I thought this was an unsigned to signed conversion error but it is not, this value is calculated and inside calc_humidity()
The hum_adc value is around 23232 and hoff is -27008 and the float cast returns -4.065e-19.
I have yet to debug pressure but I am getting the same -ve values.

I have retested with a BME690 and it works fine.
So it looks like this is an API that is not backward compatible with the BME688 and possibly the BME680 (i do not have one to test).

The calculation of the temperature and pressure for the bme690 is clearly different than for the bme68x. So yes this is a separate API. Fwiw reading the gas resistance appears to be the same as for the bme688, and the variant register is in the same location and is distinct so it appears that this can be used for detection.
