tapping a track can cause the previously selected playlist track start playing

Probably happens if that track is in the previously selected playlist.

I am changing the way the filter modes work so that alpha "mode" is only entered if you select an alpha char - not just if you open the alpha panel. Same for playlist mode. This should fix this issue, because it will be safer to assume that the current mode is correct when the track changes or a track is tapped.
