Add date field to invoice items

I would like to add a date field to invoice items, and remove quantity. How difficult would this be?

Ok, so I started by adding a date field to the invoice item table. Also updated the stub to include a date field. I can see where to edit the pdf display, but how can I get that newly added date field into the estimate-invoice line item section. I figure the date field would look something like
