Email Already Taken

Constantly receiving the error "email already taken" even though the database is empty. connection works, all fields are labeled correctly.... let me know if any further info is needed.

A 500 error is a server error - to get the error details, look in the server's error log, or configure PHP to display the error messages with this code at the top of your PHP script:

The code works fine on a regular domain, but will not work for a subdomain. not sure how to work around that but it works correctly when given a full domain

The script that's causing the error, in this case validate-email.php

The error message says that the $mysqli connection variable in the validate-email.php script is null, which probably means it hasn't connected to the database properly (e.g incorrect credentials).

In that script this line:

$mysqli = require __DIR__ . "/database.php";

includes the database connection code - if it's not working on a subdomain but it is on a domain, it could be the path to the included file is incorrect.

Getting the "email already taken" error as soon I try inputting the second entry into the database. Where could the problem be?

Did the email you supplied already exist in the database? Could there be a record with an empty or null value for the email? (this counts as a unique value)

I got most things to work except the last part, email validation with js. It keeps saying that the address is already taken and I think the problem might be with the json file. In my IDE, the following line is underlined suggesting a possible error:

return json.available;

My table is truncated so there are no entries. And please help me with this line of code, since I'm not sure at what it does:

@admirmehicic What code are you using to check to see if the database contains a record for the supplied email?

That line of code prints out a JSON array with one element, with an index of "available" and a value that is equal to the value of the $is_available variable. You can see the result of this in the browser console when the remote request runs.

Here, emailAdresaKorisnika is the name of the column in my database. When I send the request to the database and open the Network panel in my browser, I get a CORS error and the response doesn't have any content.

@admirmehicic It looks like the server is configured to not allow JS requests by default - try adding this to the top of your PHP script:
header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *");

I really appreciate you intention to help me solve this issue, but the CORS error persists even with some plug-ins to disable CORS.

I tried return a single variable from the PHP script. That approach was simpler for me but I could not really find a correct way to do that. I even tried ChatGPT and CodeGPT but they were unable to help me.
