I enjoy the way Facebook loads blurry preview photos:

There are a few other articles about this that I've read in the past and will link when I find them. I've implemented them in some projects and would like to build it out in this plugin for Images (#1), especially hero or cover images. These will be used for fallback and loading images with amp-img (#6) and the standard img src tags.
