By default, .m3u files are opened with Music but they simply won't work.
Here's a nice m3u playlist for testing Online Radios

"VLC" could handle it but "Music" should be able to play it.
It seems to be a 5 years old issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+bug/1308876
