clean_start = false does not work on protocol v5?

When I set clean_start = false on protocol v4 it seems to work as intended -- I see the client online/offline and subscription still active even if the connection is closed.

However, if I set the protocol to v5, and close the client connection I see no offline client in my broker and the subscription is gone as well.
