UX/UI: findings from the July 2026 user test session

Parent epic tracking UX/UI findings from the July 2026 user test session (two participants, encrypt → send → decrypt flow).

Session summary

• Participant 1 (low vision): completed the whole flow but needed help at several points — typed the email into the message box, tried to send before attaching a file, added an extra file by accident, couldn't find the send button, and struggled to scan the QR code. Called it "nice and simple" but said it takes practice the first time, and low vision made it harder.
• Participant 2: sailed through the happy path (attach → message → sign & send) with no trouble. Problems only around the recipient attributes (not noticed, no explanation) and a mistyped recipient email that failed silently with a misleading "sent" result.

New this session — recipient email typed into the message field; send allowed before a file is attached; extra file added unintentionally; send button hard to find; mistyped email fails silently; Yivi disclosure aborts when the app closes; compose step opens pre-scrolled; decryption code hard to copy; QR code hard to scan; Yivi PIN misclicks; first-time learning curve.

Scope note (Yivi app vs. this website)

Some findings concern the Yivi app, not this repo, and are logged here only for completeness:

• Yivi PIN keypad misclicks / skipped digits — Yivi-app concern.
• QR-code scanning performance — camera/scan is Yivi; QR display (size, contrast, padding, instructions) is in scope here.
• Yivi disclosure aborting on app close — the recovery behaviour on our side is in scope.
