Scouts should be able to enter match number and team and then it goes to a counter screen where they just hit buttons for each shot taken/scored in high goal/low goal as well as gears delivered and hang. After a few practice matches we will decide whether this is feasible for real gameplay. There should also be a tally for major/minor penalties

Does blue alliance not provide those stats for official games?

@truell20 it doesn't give it for specific teams, only the full alliance. Ideally we would have 1 scout watching each robot.

When implementing this, we should take note of issue #9. The distinction with that issue is that we'd be measuring how good they are at tasks, not how many times they perform them. For example, a team that spends the entire match struggling to place a single gear would get a low value for effectiveness, but we would still would get the points for the gear. Basically effectiveness is a subjective rating based on competence on the field.

@joshuagruenstein my concern with that is the differences between scouts' ideas of effectiveness. A possible workaround is a comments section instead of a slider/ranking type thing. That allows us to look at it when we are considering picking someone, and it allows us to denote special circumstances, etc.

I think both a comments section and an effectiveness ranking would be good. I think you will suffer from differences in scout perception, but we just won't treat it as a scientific measure, but as a general note to look to the comments for more info.

Why not just record failed attempts as well.

That would work as well. Count dropped gears and missed gears

In addition to dropped gears, missed gears, and scored gears per robot per match, we should also record auto effectiveness. If we know their auto routines from pit scouting, we should just be able to select the routine they ran, and which of the goals in the routine they accomplished successfully.
