Use Cases

Currently in the desktop app (Linux) links are handled by the default browser. Hyperlinks can be found in descriptions of many videos or in the comments. If a link is to content from a source supported by Grayjay I would like to see it open in-app.

Proposal

Ideally, it can open like clicking any other video/content that is listed in the app. The mobile app seems to have this setting already, giving the choice to let the app handle or not. Possibly a right click to show options like open in-app, open in browser, copy link, etc. when a user right clicks a hyperlink. For links that are not to content supported by Grayjay I suppose it wouldn't have the option to open in-app. There does not seem to be a right click menu for links at this time. I would like to see this functionality too for the Linux desktop app.
For example, I currently run an Invidious instance and use the Privacy Redirect browser plugin (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/privacy-redirect/pmcmeagblkinmogikoikkdjiligflglb?hl=en) to point to my instance. So if I click a YouTube link, in for example, Telegram it opens opens in the browser and redirects to my Invidious.

As Invidious is constantly having issues with YouTube these days, I want to be able to switch to using GrayJay exclusively.

And thank you dev's for this app, it is fantastic so far and I look forward to more functionality as you continue to work on it.

Since for some reason youtube randomly started blocking access to all videos while logged into my account recently I set up a redirect script in Tampermonkey to open youtube links in the FreeTube Linux app to get around it, but I've been anxiously waiting for Grayjay to come to desktop in hopes of replacing it, so I would also love to see this functionality added!

I've gotten as far as getting KDE to register handling for the grayjay:// url scheme, but grayjay itself does nothing when opened with the url as an argument. If you lauch grayjay in a terminal with a url as an argument, being either a grayjay or youtube url, it recognizes that there is an argument present, but nothing happens with the url. Grayjay just opens as normal.

From what I understand, grayjay should at least understand grayjay://license/ and grayjay://video/ schemes, but none work.

I think another nice-to-have feature would be the ability to copy-paste a link to a video/etc. into Grayjay to open it there

This is already possible in Android version and will probably land in the Desktop version since we are going for version parity wherever it's possible.
