IWC goals 21.09

We've had a meeting today and we focused on these things we would like to accomplish:

• Get the IWC started

  • Writing how to contribute (@mvdbeek) Add "Adding workflows" section, improve main readme #41
  • Best practices: (@mvdbeek) (Based on / linked to planemo documentation) Add "Adding workflows" section, improve main readme #41
    • Don’t include internal galaxy version
    • Require release tag (or something)
  • Deposit workflows
    • OpenMS (@bernt-matthias )
    • RNAseq (@mvdbeek )
    • Update Covid Workflows (@wm75 )
    • Add some computational chemistry workflows (@simonbray ) Add workflows for protein-ligand docking and free energy calculation #68
  • Deploy workflows to usegalaxy.* (and interested community servers) (@mvdbeek)
    • And/or let deployers specify list of workflows to monitor
    • Maybe integration with usegalaxy-tools (???) (Stretchgoal)
  • Community outreach, find contributors (everyone)

• Enhance Galaxy for IWC

  • Link inside the app to update workflow (@jmchilton )
  • Update mechanism for TRS workflows (@jmchilton )
  • Display CHANGELOG/History
  • Improve / fix TRS search
  • Mention missing tools when workflow can't be scheduled galaxy#12176
  • “Request tools for this workflow” (Stretch goal)
  • Additional Markdown description field (@mvdbeek )
  • Prettier diffs (maybe in planemo)
    • Convert .ga files to format2 format (Linting fixes gxformat2#64)
    • Switch Export Default to YAML (@jmchilton )
      • More testing? (@wm75 )
      • More manual inspection

• Continue improving command line execution with planemo:

  • Rerun with planemo run (@simonbray ) Add rerun subcommand for rerunning jobs planemo#1140
  • Workflow execution reports (@simonbray ) Add JSON report for planemo run invocations planemo#1153

• Static Display of Workflows in Repo (Stretch Goal - @jmchilton )

  • Linking test data, pages for describing how to run.

Explore connection with the Cancer Informatics WG as they have a number of "production ready" workflows. There are also cancer workflows being developed by Christophe Antoniewsky
