The goal would be to include it whenever a tool that we have this info for would automatically get that linked in, wherever it shows up, without requiring manual curation/updates per tutorial. I would help with this once we get it modeled & others think it would be helpful. These links get sent as part of support all the time - be easier to have a reference built-in for self-help and quick "all-in-one-place" help.
Could involve a reference list of tools linked to known resources. Then when the tutorial web page is generated, if a tool is a match, an icon appears next to the tool [?] or similar, hover over text could state something generic like "Resources", clicked on could go to some auto-generated page with formatting that is human-friendly. Or better, a pop-up with some set of "description > text or link" with a scientific focus, with a "More..." link that goes out to the full page if the user wants all the info.
Seems like we could parse ToolShed info (use common keys) and use that to create the baseline data? Curate out anything that isn't current. Used the generalized repositories "name" below to avoid versions -- think those would require too much maintenance. The tool "id" is one way to link if tools in tutorials also had a the same id tag (seems better than a fuzzy "matching text" type of link... maybe).
Example, could be modeled better, so using just to help clarify:
This resource could have many reuse cases, including in the Galaxy GUI itself. DOI's and other existing tool metadata could be included that would be of interest to scientists (pubs, etc). Not sure about tutorial data libraries/public sample data -- could argue for or against that.
Thoughts?
