consider dropping SLP support long-term to remove tech-debt

SLP ecosystem disappeared

The SLP ecosystem has almost fully disappeared and is showing no signs of coming back.
The BCH ecosystem moved on to native tokens which are validated by the protocol and don't need a separate offchain protocol for validation of token transfers.

SLP wallets

the Paytaca team, which was at first planning on re-enabling SLP in their wallet and considering creating an SLP to CashTokens bridge long term has come back on their plans

the Zapit and Bitcoin.com wallets also completely dropped their SLP token support

the one remaining BCH SLP wallet i know of is the "BCH Web3 Wallet" at fullstack.cash but it does not rely on BCHD for SLP indexing

I'm unsure if Electron Cash SLP ever supported BCHD for SLP indexing, but the wallet fork has become fully abandoned

Remaining BCH SLP users

the one remaining service which might still be using SLP is memo.cash, Memo.cash does use BCHD for SLP indexing

I confirmed prompt.cash no longer uses BCHD for SLP (and dropped SLP altogether)

The cryptoRats project does use the BCHD SLP functionality to enable their SLP to CashTokens NFT bridge

from the dev:

for most calls i use https://bchd.fountainhead.cash/
for the bridge i use https://rest.bch.actorforth.org/

The dev also indicated that long term BCHD SLP support is not important to him as it has become pure legacy functionality

Removing tech debt

long term, looking beyond 2026, SLP support is just tech debt for the BCHD codebase.

Instead it would be better to spend this complexity budget and maintenance time on other, more useful items
