Description
Hey there! Really enjoying Homepage, it's a great tool. I've got it configured to open as my new tab page in all of my browsers, and the only drawback is that in some situations, it's added an extra click to my workflow. Anytime I have a URL stored in my clipboard, I'd like to be able to CTRL+V it directly into Homepage and hit enter to immediately navigate to that URL, similar to the way that a New Tab page works in Chrome or Firefox.
If I focus the search widget upon load, this is the same amount of clicks as previously using a general New Tab page, but searches for the URL rather than navigating to it. If I don't focus the search widget, I can use Quick Launch to paste the URL in to Visit URL directly, but I need to open Quick Launch by typing something (to launch) and then removing it (to not impact the URL) in order to paste the URL in. (Example: if I open Quick Launch with a Space, then CTRL+V my URL into it, it adds a space to the front of the URL and fails to navigate to it when Visit URL is then selected due to the extra character at the beginning of the URL.)
I can see three solutions to this problem: either add functionality to the search widget to Visit URL directly in a similar way to how the Quick Launch bar works, add a hotkey of sorts to open the Quick Launch bar (example: a spacebar press opens Quick Launch, but the Space character is not added to the Quick Launch input field), or capture CTRL+V on a homepage to paste the contents of the clipboard directly into Quick Launch to take advantage of the existing Visit URL tooling without creating any unexpected user scenarios. The third option is the one that appeals to me most, but I'm not sure of the effort that it might take to implement.
